Mechanism of Action

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) contains a variety of chemical compounds, including monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and flavonoids. • Monoterpenes: Demonstrate potential gastroprotective effects against gastritis and peptic ulcers by exhibiting anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-secretory properties. • Sesquiterpenes: Sesquiterpenes have been shown to protect the gastric mucosa from injury, potentially by increasing mucus production, reducing acid secretion, and enhancing mucosal defense mechanisms. It can inhibit the formation of ulcers and promote healing, suggesting their potential as therapeutic agents for peptic ulcers. • Flavonoids: Possess anti-inflammatory properties. Some flavonoids, like baicalein, have shown the ability to inhibit the growth and activity of H. pylori, a major cause of peptic ulcers.
